Outreach is a fundamental part of the fabric of St. Chad’s. We work to extend services, benefits and aid to the community outside our walls.
St. Chad’s has three types of outreach: financial contributions from the parish to organizations, in-kind donation of goods to organizations and volunteering by parishioners with a variety of community agencies. Following is more information about ways St. Chad’s members are involved in outreach.
St. Martin’s – Outreach funds go to St. Martin’s to support their Sunday Services. These funds are used purchasing goods and funding breakfast and other projects.
Meals on Wheels – Our contributions help provide mobile meal delivery for adults–and their pets– who do not have the ability or means to get reliable meals on a regular basis.
Rock at Noonday – We support the Rock at Noonday to provide a variety of services in their homeless day shelter in downtown Albuquerque.
Faith Comes by Hearing – Funds help to provide audio Bibles world-wide in many languages.
Saranam – St. Chad’s provides both financial and in-kind contributions to this 2 year housing and education program for homeless with families who want to change and improve their lives.
Project Share – As with Saranam, we provide more than just financial support to Project Share. Parishioners regularly purchase and prepare food items for this six-nights-per-week program that provides dinners for the working poor in Albuquerque.
Rio Grande Borderland Ministries – Contributions go to aid those living in poverty on the border between New Mexico and Mexico.
Grace Camp – St. Chad’s provides scholarship money for the Bishop Stoney Grace Camp week. This camp is for the children of those serving time in prison.
Beans – Parishioners bring bags of beans or write checks to our “Bean Fund” to provide beans and other non-perishables for the Storehouse in Albuquerque. St. Chad’s provides all the beans for the Storehouse.
Socks – After Easter each year we collect socks for those homeless who utilize the services of St. Martins Hospitality Center.
Diapers – Diapers for needy mothers.
Computers and computer supplies – Our computer club repairs/wipes computers and computer equipment, then donates these items to organizations and people in the Albuquerque community.
Pillowcase dresses – Our Daughter’s of the King chapter make dresses for girls in an orphanage in Africa.
Because of our focus on outreach, that many of our parishioners volunteer in many capacities outside of organized St. Chad’s outreach is not surprising. Here are some examples:
- Red Cross mental health counseling
- VA Pharmacy volunteer at Kirtland AFB
- Snacks, water or toiletries to those begging on street corners
- Nursing home visits
- Prayer shawl knitting for donation to those needing spiritual support.
Many parishioners volunteer in other activities that are unknown to the Outreach Committee. We are establishing a simple means to capture this information for the parish records.
